Return of Praxis' partnership with the Macmillan Jersey Rowathon
After the success of last year’s event which raised £21,000, Praxis' partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey’s annual Rowathon returns for 2024.
The local charity is asking corporates, community groups and businesses alike to ‘pull together’ and support islanders affected by cancer for the community fundraising staple on Saturday 6 April at The Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel.
Teams comprising of six people will row the equivalent distance of Jersey to Sark (30,000m) on an indoor rowing machine, with a leaderboard tracking their progress. This year – the charity will be awarding the fastest teams in their relative business sectors’ prizes, to spur on friendly competition between Jersey-based companies and groups alike.
Daniel Reynolds, Praxis’ Managing Director in Jersey said: 'This event is such an important fundraiser for our community and I’m delighted that we’re able to partner with Macmillan Jersey for the fourth consecutive year.'
Kevin Alway – Communications and Event Lead for this year’s Rowathon added: 'We’d like to thank Praxis for again supporting this event in 2024, and helping ensure our services remain free to anyone in Jersey affected by cancer. The island-based businesses who provide their time and resources year-after-year to ensure the event runs smoothly, and the incredible uptake proves that people really do want to ‘pull together’ and help others here on our island.'
This year, the charity will be asking the teams of six to raise £1000 between them. There will be no upfront entry fee and Macmillan Jersey will provide teams with a fundraising pack to support their efforts. All the money raised from this event will go directly to those affected by cancer here in Jersey. The charity is hoping that the event will raise around £30,000 to go towards funding their cancer support at The Lido Medical Centre.
