Praxis supports Art for Guernsey exhibition celebrating the island’s iconic trees

A new Art for Guernsey exhibition sponsored by Praxis will celebrate Guernsey’s iconic trees - the living landmarks that shape the island’s landscape and identity.

Guernsey's trees play an important role in the island’s landscape, environment and sense of place. They contribute to biodiversity, provide shelter and habitat, and form part of the natural heritage valued by residents and visitors. From coastal trees shaped by the elements to those found in lanes, parks and gardens, they reflect Guernsey’s relationship with its environment and the shared responsibility to protect it for future generations.

Submissions are welcome from artists working in any medium and size, including painting, drawing, print, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textile, mixed media and installation. Works may respond to individual trees, groups of trees, woodland spaces or broader themes such as memory, ecology, heritage, climate and belonging. Artists of all levels are invited to respond to the open call.

Ciaran O'Neill, Managing Director, Guernsey, commented: “Guernsey's iconic trees provide a sense of place, history and continuity for generations. We're delighted to support this exhibition, which not only showcases the work of talented artists but also celebrates an important part of Guernsey's natural heritage. As a business with deep roots in the island, supporting our community and local culture is very important to us.”

David Ummels, Founder and Chairman of Art for Guernsey, said: “Over the last 10 years we have tirelessly celebrated the landscapes and seascapes of Guernsey, and the very special sources of inspiration that the island never fails to provide. For a few years we have been thinking about shining a light on Guernsey’s trees. We don’t have that many, but some of those we have are truly magnificent. As we have observed how dear they are to islanders, we felt that it would be a good subject for a show, and we are delighted to bring that to fruition in September.”

The selected artworks will feature in an exhibition at Art for Guernsey’s Mansell Street gallery from mid-September. To find out more about the entry criteria, contact megan@artforguernsey.com.
